HDI is looking for a talented & ambitious Sr. Underwriter Renewable Energy – Local & Global for a newly created position at HDI Denmark’s office central in Copenhagen.

The new Senior Underwriter will initially be the sole incumbent in this role, which has been newly established to ensure local anchoring of Renewable Energy in the Nordic region. The role involves close collaboration globally and with colleagues at HDI Denmark such as Lead Underwriters, Underwriters and relevant stakeholders, including HDI Denmark Distribution Team, Administration Team, Risk Engineers, Claims Team, and Strategic Underwriters based at HDI’s Home Office. Together, the company strives to maintain their leadership position in the Nordic insurance market by leveraging their collective expertise and focusing on performance. The position reports directly to the Head of Underwriting Power, Renewable & Conventional, located in Hannover, with a dotted line to Head of Industrial in Copenhagen to ensure local anchoring.

The Senior Underwriter will primarily be responsible for – and not limited to – the underwriting and analysis of all Renewable Energy requests in the Nordics & globally. That also includes renewals and portfolio performance including client relationships, negotiation and selling. In order to carry out this responsibility it is imperative that the Senior Underwriter is generally engaged in renewable energy – staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities and duties include:

• Evaluate and underwrite renewable energy risks in the Nordics (Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland)
• Support the Hannover Home Office in underwriting the global renewable energy
• Provide technical expertise and support to underwriting teams globally, sharing best practices and knowledge
• Focus on onshore renewable energy (e.g. Batteries, Wind, Solar) but also other risks related to green technologies
• Analyze and assess technical risk exposures, coverage needs and loss history for renewable energy projects
• Collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to develop tailored insurance solutions
• Monitor and manage the performance of the local portfolio

Being a newly created role as well as a global one, there will be some contact with the Home Office in Germany and of course some travel activities must be expected mainly to Hannover and the Nordic countries. Depending on activity, this will amount to approximately 20 days of travel per year.

HDI is looking for a senior profile within underwriting – combined with background & experience within the area of Renewable Energy and teamwork-mindset. The ideal candidate has:

• A master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent diplomas (e.g. in engineering or risk management
• Fluency in Danish, Swedish or Norwegian as well as English – both written and verbally at negotiation level (knowledge of German language will be considered an advantage)
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant underwriting experience – 10 years will be considered an advantage – being engineering, wind, or technical
• Proven experience in handling international programs/clients
• Professionally well-founded with strong communication skills
• Highly driven and resourceful, with the ability to work independently while fostering strong collaboration across teams and regions
• Strong analytical skills, structured and detail-oriented
• Team mentality – collaborates effectively across the organization
• Generally engaged in renewable energy – staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes
