HDI is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter Renewable Energy – Nordic for the HDI-office in Copenhagen with direct report to the Head of Industrial Lines.

The new Senior Underwriter will initially be the sole incumbent in this role, which has been newly established to ensure local anchoring of Renewable Energy in the Nordic region. The role involves close collaboration globally and with colleagues at HDI Denmark such as Lead Underwriters, Underwriters and relevant stakeholders, including HDI Denmark Distribution Team, Administration Team, Risk Engineers, Claims Team, and Strategic Underwriters based at HDI’s Home Office. Together, the company strives to maintain their leadership position in the Nordic insurance market by leveraging their collective expertise and focusing on performance.

As Senior Underwriter Renewable Energy – Nordic, you will play a key role in shaping and growing HDI’s Renewable Energy portfolio across the Nordic region. You will be responsible for underwriting and assessing new and existing business opportunities, managing renewals, driving portfolio performance, and building strong relationships with brokers and clients. The role requires an active market presence, strong negotiation skills, and a proactive approach to identifying and winning profitable new business. To carry out this responsibility it is imperative that you are generally engaged in renewable energy – staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Evaluate and underwrite renewable energy risks in the Nordics (Denmark, Sweden, Norway & Finland)
  • Focus on onshore renewable energy (e.g. Batteries, Wind, Solar) but also other risks related to green technologies
  • Analyze and assess technical risk exposures, coverage needs and loss history for renewable energy projects
  • Collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders to develop tailored insurance solutions
  • Monitor and manage the performance of the local portfolio

Depending on the activity there will be approximately 15-20 days of travel per year.

HDI is looking for a Senior Underwriter who can support sustainable, profitable growth in the Renewable Energy sector while keeping pace with industry innovation, technological advancements, and regulatory developments.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent diplomas (e.g. in engineering or risk management)
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant underwriting experience – 10 years will be considered an advantage – being engineering, wind, or technical
  • Established relations and a broad network within the Renewable Energy field
  • Professionally well-founded with strong communication skills
  • Highly driven and resourceful, with the ability to work independently while fostering strong collaboration across teams and regions
  • Strong analytical skills, structured and detail-oriented
  • Team mentality – collaborates efficiently across the organization
  • Generally engaged in renewable energy – staying up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes
  • Fluent in Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian as well as English – both written and verbally at negotiation level (knowledge of German language will be considered an advantage)
