HDI is looking for a skilled and motivated Underwriter specializing in Property to join their Global SE branch located in Copenhagen with direct report to Head of Industrial Lines.

This is a newly established position within HDI’s Property team, offering hands-on exposure to complex commercial risks, close collaboration with experienced colleagues, and a steep learning curve that will accelerate professional development.

The position is part of a dynamic team comprising one Lead Underwriter, one Senior Underwriter, one Underwriter and three Engineers. Furthermore, the team is supported by experienced admins. The team is not only highly professional but also possesses extensive experience and a profound understanding of complex risks within the Nordic market. HDI has established a strong presence throughout the Nordics, demonstrating their commitment to delivering exceptional underwriting services in the region.

The role involves close collaboration with the Lead Underwriter, Underwriters and relevant stakeholders, including their Sales and Distribution Team, Administration Team, Risk Engineers, Claims Team, and Strategic Underwriters based at HDI’s Home Office. Together, the company strives to maintain their leadership position in the Nordic insurance market by leveraging their collective expertise and focusing on performance.

The Property Underwriter will partner closely with brokers and clients – leveraging a strong network across 40+ countries. The primary responsibility will be to support the underwriting and analysis of Industrial Lines Property requests in the Nordics, while also underwriting and analysing small client accounts. This includes renewals and portfolio performance including client relationships, negotiation and selling.

The Property Underwriter will be responsible for a broad range of analytical and underwriting-related tasks, including:

• Conducting natural catastrophe analyses globally using HDI’s in-house systems, including advanced tools integrating NASA-based mapping data
• Supporting underwriting activities for both existing and new clients, including:
  • Assessment of policy terms and conditions
  • Analysis of claims history and risk profiles
  • Premium calculations
  • Preparation of quotations and policy issuance
  • Ongoing portfolio and client evaluation
• Providing day-to-day support to Senior Underwriters across the Property portfolio
• Support to Senior Underwriters in Performing market and portfolio analysis to support strategic decision-making
• Ensuring high data quality across the portfolio, including validation, structuring, and analysis of underwriting data

Depending on the activity there will be approximately 10-20 days of travel per year. This includes participating in relevant training and exchange programs at the headquarters in Hanover.

HDI is looking for an aspiring Property Underwriter eager to build underwriting expertise in a team that values curiosity, collaboration and continuous learning.

The ideal candidate has:

• Recently completed a relevant Master’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management or a related field. Relevant industry experience will also be considered
• Preferred 1-3 years of relevant underwriting experience
• Naturally curious and motivated to learn
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Interest in complex risks and technical underwriting

• Builds trusted relationships with colleagues, brokers and clients
